Description
Harshingar (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis), commonly known as Night-Blooming Jasmine, Parijat, or Harsingar, is a beautiful, fragrant flowering plant that blooms at night. Its small, star-shaped white flowers with orange centers fill the air with a sweet, intoxicating fragrance, especially during the monsoon and autumn seasons. The flowers fall off by morning, covering the ground like a fragrant carpet.
Harshingar thrives in warm climates and prefers well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight during the day. It is drought-resistant once established and requires minimal care. While the plant's beauty lies in its night blooms, it also has cultural and medicinal significance in Indian tradition, being used in Ayurvedic medicine for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
This plant is excellent for home gardens or patios, adding a magical nighttime ambiance. Regular pruning helps maintain its shape and encourages more blooms.
